LEAD INSTALLER

Job Type: Direct Hire
Location: Blaine
Shift/Hours: 7am to 3:30 pm M-F, Overtime when needed, light travel is required, less than a week per month
Career Level: 3 years +
Education: Minimum of 3 years related experience required. Sign fabrication and/or exterior installation experience preferred but a background in carpentry, custom cabinet making, jig or pattern building, boat/airplane building, or electrical experience is acceptable.
Salary: $50-$52,000/yr

 Description:

1.  Install interior and exterior signs at customer locations precisely as requested. 

  1. Review shop drawings and interpret the drawings and methods of fabrication and identify mounting approaches based on site conditions. Use shop equipment and hand tools to cut, bend and form materials as needed for installation of product at job site.
  2. Contacts and schedules all installs with the customer at least 48 hours prior to the desired installed time and then arriving at the agreed upon time and notifying customer and Account Manager of any delays
  3. Conduct site surveys to assess dimensions, installation access requirements, and limiting conditions for a sign as requested by the Account Manager or Sales Person
  4. Flag exterior sign installation locations for utility locating and initiate utility locate requests
  5. Load and unload installation truck and delivery shipments
  6. Prepare outbound shipments, paperwork, and packaging for UPS and/or LTL Ground shipments to other company locations
  7. Maintain office and warehouse equipment in working order and general weekly cleaning.

 Requirements:

1. Must have experience with architectural, ACM and millwork installations and have         worked onsite at general contractor construction sites.

2.   Experience mounting structural components to various building exteriors (e.g. masonry, metal formed panels, and parapets) and in-ground installations using rebar and concrete is preferred.

3.  Must have experience in mounting wall graphics and/or vehicle graphics.

4.  Basic knowledge of electrical and wiring systems for handling illuminated signs. UL 48 certification a plus.

5.  Must know and understand ADA rules for sign installation and consistently install signs within ADA guidelines.

6.  Must be able to accurately read, understand, and demonstrate how to use a tape measure and laser level on materials used daily.

7.  Operate basic hand and power tools such as hammer drills, radial saws, sawzall, and pneumatic tools

8.  Read, understand, and follow architectural blueprint and book job information.

9.  Assist with loading and unloading trucks.

10.Be able to operate a scissor lift, JLG lift, and tow a trailer.

11.Good spelling and math abilities.  Must be able to work with fractions.

12.Knowledge of Typestyle and fonts helpful

 Physical Requirements:

  1. Candidates will be standing and moving around all day.
  2. Must be able to safely and easily lift up to 80 pounds and work overhead for extended period of times.
  3. Be able to work at heights up to 60 feet.
  4. Good manual dexterity
  5. Must be prepared to work outside in all types of weather conditions.

ESTIMATOR/PURCHASOR

Description:

   Purchasing -

  1. Place purchases for raw materials, supplies, and tools
  2. Provide technical advice to production, design, and sales teams regarding manufacturing costs and best manufacturing methods.
  3. Coordinate with the Production Manager to maintain ideal raw material and stock product inventories, and binned parts.
  4. Coordinate with the Production Manager and the sales team to manage expectations on job timelines due to material availability.
  5. Manages outside suppliers for quality and on-time delivery
  6. First point of contact back to vendors regarding damaged or defective materials and provides input to Controller for credit tracking.

Description:

   Estimator –

  1. Is responsible to ensure that cost estimates, cost studies and other cost engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with applicable objectives, procedures, instructions and guidelines.
  2. Is accountable for the delivery, maintenance, and revision of high quality cost/credit estimates for all activities in the lifecycle of the project.
  3. Responsible as primary contact for responding to General Contractor bid solicitations and for expanding coverage of contractor bid sites to generate more opportunities and prospects
  4. Maintain the General Contractor bid login information sheet to ensure that all login information is current and accurate.
  5. Develop and maintain an active proposal backlog that will support the assigned sales plan.
  6. Utilize CRM tool for tracking bid solicitations, pipeline, and opportunity status.
  7. Prepares and implements a site cost estimating/cost engineering employee training and professional development program that is consistent with DSS agreed standards.
  8. Develops and maintains terms of reference for cost estimating/cost engineering positions for use in recruiting and subcontractor selection; ensures only qualified and capable subcontractors are acquired and retained.
  9. Compile an accurate take-off and summary of all materials, fixtures, and equipment, together with evaluation of labor, material, and equipment costs.

10. Mechanical system knowledge - able to "fill in the gaps" on incomplete mechanical drawings and specifications.

11. Ability to correlate drawings to actual physical installations.

12. Obtains vendor information to update the cost data file, assists in development of estimating databases, inclusive of input coding structure, and takes ownership of portions of the database.

13. Generates and retrieves reports in the appropriate software application, understands and summarizes the data in the required presentation for management reviews.

14. Directs others in the use of estimating software applications based on estimate scope and data availability.

Requirements:

   Purchasing -

  1. Detailed knowledge of the materials and processes used at DSS
  2. Memorization skills of past jobs, customers, and methodologies
  3. Analytical skills are required for cost and alternative analysis
  4. Vendor negotiation skills
  5. Skilled in Microsoft Excel and Outlook

Requirements:

   Estimating -

  1. Highly proficient in all of the key areas of cost engineering and estimating, including the preparation and review of approximate, preliminary, definitive and detailed cost estimates.
  2. Knowledgeable about the generally accepted industry best practices.
  3. Demonstrated ability to manage the development of estimating systems that are fully integrated with other project management systems.
  4. Excellent mathematical skills and experienced with working with fractions
  5. Ability to read construction plans and specifications
  6. Ability to conceptualize images in three dimensional view

Physical Requirements:

  1. Candidates will be sitting most of the day.
  2. May need to lift up to 20lbs infrequently
  3. Must be able to work with a computer screen and keyboard all day

PROJECT MANAGER

  5. Works with the Production Manager to define field labor needs
  6. Works with the Procurement Manager to facilitate the buyout and establish commitments in the job cost system

INSIDE SALES SPECIALIST

The Inside Sales Specialist is responsible for conducting sales with established customers for established products or minor variants of existing products.  The Inside Sales Specialist shares responsibility with the Direct Sales personnel or Account Managers to attain the sales, gross margin and product needs and delivery requirements of the customers. The Inside Sales Specialists are measured on their ability to achieve the sales and profit goals and customer satisfaction objectives for each customer.

The Inside Sales Specialist assures that Designer Sign Systems’ meets it revenue, service, quality and profit goals by effectively and efficiently managing their time and selling effort and coordinating customer requirements with other team members through the use of the planning and selling process.  Cooperating with the other DSS team members and with other departments, the Inside Sales Specialist contributes to the success of the company’s revenue, gross margin and profit goals.

SIGN ENGRAVER

Engraving acrylic and sign profile materials with computerized rotary engraving machine (New Hermes), laser engraver/cutter (Gravo Graph) and assisting in assembly of products. 

Develops and maintains CAD drawings using GravoStyle. 

Set up, operate, adjust and edit programs on CNC Router. Check work for errors, plotting sheets to avoid waste, schedule production of parts, maintains equipment.

Normal work hours will be 7:00am to 3:30pm. Must be able and willing to work overtime as requested.

METAL FABRICATION & ELECTRICAL PRODUCTION

This role in metal fabrication is to construct exterior signage. Designer Sign Systems is looking for a 1st shift (7:00AM – 3:30PM) Metal Fabricator who has some prior experience with welding or is looking to begin their welding career, construction of exterior signage, reverse channel letters, flat cut aluminum, inventory management, blueprint/spec reading skills, and able to maintain equipment as necessary. In this role, you will work closely with the Graphic Design Department to ensure that artwork quality, graphic layouts, and post production notes are defined and maintained to fulfill ongoing customer reorders and maintain consistency.

PAINTER - 2nd SHIFT

The full-time industrial painter is experienced in application of acrylic lacquers, paint tinting, and hand fabrication with acrylics with the utmost concern for high quality results.

In this position you will be required to wear a respirator when spraying paints and to follow proper procedures for paint material handling and disposal.  You will maintain the paint booth and all equipment used for optimum quality performance and durability.  You will also be required to perform tasks involving lifting up to 50 pounds and operating a pressurized paint gun in an overhead position.  You must also satisfactorily pass a Respirator Medical Evaluation and Chemical respirator fit check in order to be employed.

Normal work hours will be 3pm to 11:00pm Monday through Friday. Initial work hours will be 7am to 3:30pm for 30 to 45 days of training and then, following training, hours will transition to 3:00pm to 11:00pm.  Must be able and willing to work overtime as requested.
