ADA Experts and Accessibility
The Americans with Disabilities Act was initially adapted in 1990. It was intended to guarantee better accessibility for those with special needs to facilitate their mobility in the world.
Designer Sign Systems manufactures and installs signs to comply with ADA, ADAAG (Americans with Disability Act Accessibility Guidelines) and ICC/ANSI manufacturing standards including the new round top Grade 2 Braille requirements.
The codes legislated curb cutaways, reserved parking and handicapped accessible restrooms for those in wheelchairs. They also introduced requirements to introduce signage with raised lettering and Braille for those with impaired sight. Signage is also required to indicate accessibility points for all.
As it applies to signage specifically, there are numerous codes for new and remodeled public facilities. They range from where and when to introduce Braille and tactile lettering, to standardizing sign placement so it can easily be located without putting anyone in harms way.
Keeping up with and interpreting the codes is a constant challenge. Designer Sign Systems can provide you with advice on your signage requirements and install it to meet code. We also have a partnership with JQP, Inc., a nationally recognized ADA accessibility and advisory firm. JQP, Inc. is not only available to assist us with interpretations, but their audit services may be employed to advise you on your entire accessibility planning.
